I'm back!

And I'm back.... it's been a while since I posted anything. It's mostly due to the fact that I have been crazy busy and ostensibly, I just forgot. But I'm back full swing & ready to let everyone hear my new projects, crazy rants & funny story.

As many of you may know I am a dance teacher. We have begun our fall registration and I get to smile & greet all the new kids(which I love) and parents(which are a headache). After the 3rd mother asked me how long a "session" of classes was and why students couldn't sign up 3/4 thru the year and participate in the recital, I finally had it. Luckily I kept my cool with her, and took it out to my other teacher friends. To people who don't understand my frustration... here goes.

#1. Children go to school September-June. They partake in art, gym, and traditional classes all year. Why is it so hard to understand that our classes also go all year. You wouldn't assume that your 6 year old could start any of those classes 5 months late & not be behind, then why do you assume it for dance?

#2. Children are usually signed up for dance for one of 3 major reasons. 1)Express that energy, learn to channel it in a healthy art form. 2)Child needs more physical activities. 3)Child's parent wants to see them in a tutu on stage. Parents who sign their child up for dance for reasons 1 or 2 understand why its a year long process. Parents who sign their child up for reason 3 are selfish and not thinking of their child's best interest(my advice- go find a beauty pageant & buy them a pretty dress)

#3. I am trying to educate your children, keep them healthy & show them commitment. I am afraid of what this world is going to be like in 30 years when all these children are adults. I don't believe this do it all & not commit to anything will be good for our culture. If you don't agree with me, that is o.k.

And finally, when I explain this to you, do not respond with "wow that just sucks that someone had to make those rules." My name is someone and I made the rules. Just because you didn't get your way, do not throw a hissy fit. I promise you can find an unqualified teacher someone to take your money & let your little girl go on stage, but when they are my students the LEARN.

Potty Training

Today Dawn decided it was time to start potty training again. After she went poopie on the potty she asked for her sticker & was quite upset when she realized that her chart got ripped(its been about 2 months since she stopped so it has become quite a mess) So my project today was to create Dawn her own potty chart! Here it is!

Our New Family Planner

My daughter is 2 and temper tantums have taken over our lives. So my 2012 new years resolution, organize her life & help her to avoid tantrums. This started with our new family binder & a schedule board. Starting this morning(and every morning in the future) we are going to explain to her what the day will bring with her schedule board. Ive made velcro pieces iwth everyone pictures & clip arts of activites we also do. Ive also added a "daily theme" and "where I sleep tonight" This morning she loved it, she went down for her nap with no problems(we've had problems for weeks). I hope it keeps working.

My husband is going to be a stay at home dad for a while, but isnt very creative. Every day there is going to be a craft for them to do, or an outing, or something along those lines. I'm going to attempt to post as much as I can of these activities. If I dont create them, Ill try to post links to the activities I use.
This is the schedule we're using.
